THE SHELTER
Give me shelter from the rain
Give me shelter from the pain
Give me a place to sleep
Give me a bed that’s mine to keep.
Take me away from the harsh words I had to hear
Take me away from conditions that are too hard to bear.
Give me love, peace and understanding
A love that is not depending
On what I can do for you
But what together we can get through.
Now that I am free from the cruelty I used to feel
My wounds will have time to truly heal.
I will become nature’s wonder once again
So I can run with you in the rain
And sit with you to watch the sunrise.
Does it really come as a surprise?
When I say, I’ll wait here patiently all day
To hear someone say, ‘come home with me – home to stay’.
